The kids may be back in school and weekly routines are in full swing but that doesn’t mean fun should be thrown out the door. Fall is a great time to explore your community and partake in various family oriented events. After all, the crisp air and warm midday sunshine makes fall a favoured season by many.

Here are 5 family friendly Ottawa Events to ensure you and your family have some fun this fall.

  1. Carp Farmers’ Harvest Celebration Market, October 5th 2019.

Join your local market and help celebrate the fall harvest. Enjoy live music, local artisan booths and a kids scavenger hunt. The best part is admission and parking is free! Just remember your camera because there will be creative displays of pumpkins and gourds .

      2.PumpkinFerno, until October 27th 2019.

This event is a little way out of the city but it’s most definitely worth it! After sunset, the 1860’s village is decorated with roughly 7,000 lit-up pumpkins. The pumpkins are carved of various characters: forest animals, sea-creatures, story book characters and mythical creatures. Note this event is also stroller-friendly.

3.Saunders Farm, until the end of October.

Saunders Farm is home to the largest number of full-sized hedge mazes in North America. During the fall season, Saunders offers family-friendly harvest and halloween themed fun. Daytime activities such as pedal carts, corn mazes, giant jumping pillows, puppet shows and pumpkin patch hayrides are perfect for the whole family. Night time activities are infested with ghosts, goblins and monsters of all kinds. Note children under ten should not partake in after dark activities.

  1. Byward Market, year long.

The Byward Market is an Ottawa classic. Walk around and explore all the artisan booths, while enjoying your favourite gourmet treats. During the fall months pumpkins and fresh pine decorations can be found throughout the market. The market may be open year round but each season offers new performances and specialties.

  1. Haunted sites, year long.

Haunted Walks of Ottawa hosts tours after dark. Each tour is led by a guide dressed in a long black cloak, carrying a small glowing lantern. These walking tours explore some of Canada’s most haunted buildings. This event is not recommended for small children but families with older children find this activity a halloween must.

All of the events listed above are Ottawa classics, that the whole family is sure to love. Whichever events you choose to attend, it’s important to remember that fall is all about enjoying time as a family, before the busyness of the holiday season sets in. Take lots of pictures, eat good food and stay warm this season!
